“Our bodies are our gardens – our wills are our gardeners.”

-William Shakespeare

One of the biggest misconceptions out there today is the meaning of the word “diet”.

When a person tells her friends, “I’m on a diet”, the popular notion is that this person is on a special (and often short-term) food plan that she has set for her self in order to achieve a goal. In most cases, the goal is either weight loss or to help deal with a medical or health condition.

We are all on a diet, whether we like it or not

However, what most people don’t realize (or often forget) is that the original definition of the word “diet” refers more to the kind of food a person, animal, or community eats on a regular basis.

In other words, all of us are a on a diet, and have been since the day we were born. Whether you are following a strict weight loss regimen such as an intermittent fasting diet or you have a (not so good) preference for eating pizza and burgers at every meal, you are on a diet.

As a result, everyone should be aware and fully in control of their diets. The popular saying “you are what you eat” has been cliche for decades, yet it continues to persist because it is one of the truest sayings you will ever encounter in your life.

To eat or not to eat isn’t the only question. What, when, and how much to eat are also important.

What is Diet Self Help?

Diet Self Help was created to help people looking for relevant and well-researched information on diets, nutrition, and health. It aims to provide practical information on what you should eat (and not eat) no matter what your goals are.

I came up with the name “Diet Self Help” because I think that in today’s fast-paced and continually changing world, the best person to take care of your health is (and always will be) you.

No matter how many doctors you know, or how many health conscious friends and family you have, at the end of the day the state of your body comes down to what you decide to put in it, and how you decide to use it.

Health care costs are at an all-time high – so why not take your fate (and your finances) into your own hands by educating yourself and keeping your body in optimal condition through self-care?

Throughout the Diet Self Help website, you will find comprehensive articles on a wide range of related topics, including:

  • Healthy eating
  • Nutrition
  • Supplements
